Our 2021 Barrington High School Lacrosse Booster Scholarship Winners

The Scholarship Committee is excited to announce that we received 6 applications this year, out of a Senior Class of 18. I know I speak for the entire committee in saying that all the applicants were worthy of consideration and the voting was extremely close.

Academic Scholarship

Will Coombs

Will has been a captain or co-leader of BHS lacrosse teams every year. Throughout his high school career, he has demonstrated hard work and persistence in both lacrosse and academics. His GPA of 4.587 (with 5 AP and 4.5 honors credits) is even more impressive given his participation in many extracurricular and volunteer activities.

Will has participated in Broncos Committed and served his fellow students as a Barrington High School math tutor. He’s even been a Barrington Special Olympics Coach. Altogether, he’s served 45.5 Volunteer hours. Will has also participated in clubs and other extracurricular activities including the Barrington Robotics Team, National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society.

William will be attending University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana in the fall to Study Electrical Engineering.

Leadership Scholarship

Andrew Moritz

Andrew has shown leadership through hard work and his dedication to the team for several years. Demonstrating one of the most important facets of leadership, Will has accumulated and incredible 158.5 volunteer hours, working with seven different organizations including: Lutheran Church of the Atonement (with Advocacy and a Mission trip); PADS of Elgin - food packing and homeless assistance; TOP Soccer Coaching; Barrington Giving Day; and Citizens for Conservation.

Andrew leads as a team player – he’s willing to take the shot, as well as assist other scorers on the team. Andrew is also an outstanding student with 5 hours of AP courses, 5 hours of honors courses, and a 4.2 GPA .

Andrew will be attending University of Wisconsin - Madison studying Civil Engineering in the fall.

Special thanks go to Shefali Bhuva for setting up the scholarship program and to our board,
coaches and committee members for the expanded funding and support.
